The Captain's Dog: My Journey with the Lewis and Clark Tribe (Great Episodes)

Excellent service. Excellent book.

I read this book with my 4th grade class while we were studying Lewis and Clark. I loved it and so did they. It did a wonderful job of engaging their interest in the subject. It is basically Lewis and Clark's expedition from the point of view of Seaman, Captain Lewis's dog. It starts out after the expedition is over. Seaman is living with a tribe after other believed him to be dead. He is found by two Corps of Discovery members. The tribe had Captain Lewis's journal and ask the two men to read and translate it from them. While the dog, Seaman listens Toth journal being read, he reminisces through flashbacks. Each chapter begins with an exert from Lewis's journal. It is a very good read, especially for engaging interest in Lewis and Clark's expedition.

Although none of the other versions of the story were as compelling. I loved the inclusion of a white Wing, who followed Seaman throughout the journey, then settled on Mountain Dog

Great book for kids or adults who want a lighter delve into Lewis and Clark's search for the Northwest Passage. Easy to read because of font and spacing as well.

Excellent book for learning about one of the greatest adventures of all time. It weaves excerpts of the actual journals of Lewis and Clark with the perspective of Seaman, Captain Lewis' great big Newfoundland dog. Seaman was an important member of the Corps of Discovery, and his contributions and adventures show up throughout the L&C Journals. What fun to follow along their steps through the voice of Seaman! I'm using the book with my 4th graders, to learn about both the Expedition and "point of view".

I loved this book! This is written about the Lewis and Clark Expedition from the dogs point of view. It was factually historical and an enjoyable read.

This book is very well written and entertaining and a completely unexpected view of the Lewis and Clark expedition. At some points in the book, I forgot that the story was being told by the dog and felt like I was listening to first hand memories of one of the humans on this trip. Even those who are not very interested in history will find this book enjoyable and fun.
