Works well
Used these to cut 1/8″ stainless steel wire rope cables. The tool cut the cable smoothly and easily without smashing or fraying.

Great cutter for SS cable!
I have been using the cable cutter built into the side of my swaging tool, but it has never worked very well. As it has dulled, the performance become unacceptable. So I bought this cutter mainly to get cleaner cuts in cable that needs to be fed through holes, ferrules, etc. It works great on 1/8" stainless steel aircraft cable! I have not tried it on anything heavier yet, but it goes through 1/8" like butter, and leaves perfect ends. I am very impressed and wish I had bought one years ago.

Has worked very well so far
I'll start by saying I've only had this cutter for a couple of weeks, and I've only cut 1/8" stainless steel, uncoated wire rope used as a flagpole halyard. Although what I'm cutting is admittedly smaller than the stated capacity, I was impressed by how smoothly and how easily this cutter cut, particularly considering it's small size. Very clean ends left over and no compression of the cable whatsoever, which is very important in maintaining the round profile of the cable. There was almost zero spreading of the cable braids. That's pretty much impossible to avoid 100% with any cutter, but maintaining the round cable profile and keeping the absolute minimum amount of braid spreading is extremely important if you need to swage ferrules onto the cable after cutting it, which I did. So I'm very pleased with this cutter, at least on the cable I've used so far.

Not enough leverage for 3/16 stainless cable
I used this item to cut 3/16 " stainless cable for decking. The handles were to short to get the leverage necessary to make cuts without a struggle. Good quality product and would be great for 1/8 " thickness cable but I would not recommend for 3/16. I made 20 cuts and after a small decrease in sharpness cuts got nearly impossible to complete. I decided to order a set with 28" handles to finish my job.

Works on 3/16" steel cable
I used these to cut guy wires for a tower. I cut 3/16" stranded steel wire rope. It takes some effort to cut but It does cut clean without mashing or flattening the wire at the cut. The wire did not fray out after cut as well. I only needed them for this one installation but it would have been a lot more effort and less clean cuts if I had not used them.

FABULOUS
I purchased another brand of wire rope cutter prior to this one. The prior cutter was marketed to cut 1/2 inch stainless steel. Well, my need was to cut 1/4 galvanized and that prior cutter failed. The jaws deformed, didnt cut the smaller wire rope, and went right back to Amazon. A friend helped me find this cutter on Amazon. I made the purchase and when the driver delivered it, i laughed. The driver asked what was funny. I explained that I just returned a 30" cutter and this cutter is like half the length. So I was laughing as how small this cutter was compared to the other. The driver and I laughed. I took the cutter in, unboxed it, and right away, went to the wire rope to cut where the other failed. I moved back a bit further from the failed cut, so I could get a good clean cut. Once all lined up, I put pressure on handles, and damn! Right through! It even made a weird, like cartoon noise. So impressed! Yes, if you need to cut wire rope, at least 1/4 inch galvanized, this one will definitely do it for you! I would bet donuts on it!

cuts 3/16 stainless steel cable leaving clean ends
the jaws overcut a little too much to be easy to use. with the cable in the jaws the handles are at about a 90 degree angle and you have to exert more force to cut the cable. if the handles were more like 45 to 50 degrees with the cable in the jaws it would be easier to apply the necessary force to cut the cable
