Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set: Dragons of Stormwreck Isle, Mult

Okay, the books are really more like magazines but the content is excellent. These Starter Rules do a great job of explaining things. Characters for the players are pregenerated so you can just jump in and play. Even the character sheets have wonderfully clear explanations of what everything means. I will say, the adventure in the original D&D5e Starter Set is still worth playing but this one - Stormwreck Isle - feels more up-to-date. There are back stories to each encounter, great for role-play and it encourages an approach where every monster doesn’t have to be attacked immediately (unless of course, they’re mindless animated corpses)! I hugely recommend that anyone wanting to run this gives it a full read through before going to the table. But, trust me, it doesn’t take long to read. It would have been nice if there were some card tokens or minis. And maybe some paper battlemats to use. The dice are the minimum (a set of just six) and, I must say, I always like a different colour for each of the dice to help beginners get used to the different shapes. Having a box like this though - which has plenty of spare room by the way - is perfect for transporting extra dice, pencils, Dungeon Master Screen, notebook, etc Actually, why isn’t there a DM Screen in the box - even a ’cheap’ one like in the Essentials box? (I suppose the manufacturer looks for ways to cut back and save a bit of money.) If you can, it would be good to buy one. All in all though, for me, probably the best Starter Set for D&D in its current form. Go play and enjoy. We did!

The character pamphlets are best photo-copied to preserve the originals as you must write on them (this is allowed as stated on the bottom of character pamphlets), Characters are fun and a lovely set of dice are included, this will get you started, im going to add painted D&D figures to my game, for Dungeon Master and Adventurers the imagination is the limit and at a great price

Very good product. All you need for a 3 plus session campaign. Adventure high quality with cool locations but not complicated/too many options. The slimmed down rules also well presented. Interesting choices on what they included, not sure I would have done the same (maybe made it even simpler for beginners ) but they worked hard to make it ‘real’ D&D. A great introduction to the game. Background. I played 30 plus years ago but had to organise and DM a game at short notice for my 11 year old daughter and her friends. This set made it a success.

I played AD&D as a teenager but never as a DM so I thought I would give this a go with the family. The story seems like it will be fun but the set is limited by accessories such as 5 prefilled character sheets and a set of dice. After looking on YouTube for some tips on how to run it, I found that there are quite a few experienced players suggesting that you need Player Miniatures, Spell Cards, Monster/NPC Miniatures/Cards/Tokens and 1x1 inch grid maps. I am disheartened a little after looking at the additional cost and time to accessorise in order to provide the most immersive experience I can and it would have been a lot nicer to put all of the full sized paper grid maps folded in and some cardboard cut-out characters representing players, NPCs and monsters. A basic DM screen would also have been nice. It's difficult to quantify what you are getting for your £20 based on the contents. I feel that calling it a starter set is a little bit rich as it is more like a minimal viable product which needs to be added to. As its intention is to introduce new people then a new DM is probably not going to have all the cool stuff like maps, minis, extra dice, dm screen etc. so this stuff should really be required to start play.

My 15 years old son love playing it with his friends. Developes imagination really well.

Overall, the set is of an acceptable quality and value. The character sheets are better organized with appropriate details.
