The BGO remaster of Wishbone Ash's LIVE DATES is easily one of the best remastered CDs I have ever purchased. I transferred both the original 1992 MCA 2CD set and the single BGO CD (the bonus track PHOENIX live at Memphis is not included here) to a flash drive in order to make a quick A-B comparison. I needn't have bothered. The new remaster is remarkably crisper and more detailed than the original. Until hearing this I never realized how dull sounding the MCA pressing is. It's been so long since I played the 1973 2-LP set I can't recall how it sounded, but I'd bet there's little or no difference to the '92 CDs. BGO states they used the original analogue tapes for this remaster (they don't provide a date). The volume level has also not been increased which results in a loss of dynamic range, something I've noticed with other so-called "Remasters". Whether you're replacing your old CDs (or LPs), or buying this for the first time, you won't be disappointed. Wishbone Ash has never sounded better. Think Deep Purple Made in Japan, the Alman Brothers Live at Fillmore East, Rory Galagher Irish Tour '74, etc. This Wishbone Ash Live Dates album is right up there with the best of them. It starts off with The King Will Come, a personal favorit of mine, and ends with a 10+ minute tour-de-force of Phoenix that will blow the top of your head off. Also includes Rock and Roll Widow, Blowin Free and several others. Get it now. You won't regret it. Turn up the volume and be prepared for a rock show second to none.
