What is the working range for this one? 10ft? 15 ft?

logitech.com says 10 meters (32.8 ft.) but I imagine that is under optimal laboratory testing conditions. Unless everything is clean and new, nothing in between mouse and receiver, the best and newest battery etc. it will probably be less

Is there a compartment for the receiver?

Yes there is a receiver with the mouse, and batteries. Every mouse is brand new in original packaging from the factory.

does it have an on/off switch like the M310

There is an on/off switch on the bottom.
