Simple Steps to Foot Pain Relief: The New Science of Healthy Feet [Bowman, Katy] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Simple Steps to Foot Pain Relief: The New Science of Healthy Feet Review: More relief than two years of a podiatrist's care - I spent two years visiting podiatrists trying to get pain relief from my plantar's fasciitis. The first one gave me steroid shots in the tendons - apart from being THE most painful shot I've ever had - it did relieve the pain AMAZINGLY well, but it eventually came back. Bought the $500 inserts (not covered by insurance) and wore nothing but tennis shoes. Once the shot wore off I was back at square one. Tried another podiatrist who - irrespective of his being an ass - did nothing for me. I asked for shoe/exercise recommendations and he just told me that if anything hurts, I'm doing more damage. So on chance, I stumbled on this book in the library and read it. A quick, easy read, but filled with common sense suggestions. A month after starting her suggestions on gait training and stretching, I've gotten more relief than in the previous two years under "professional medical care". I'm a real skeptic with non-physicians, so for me to sing the praises of the advice in this book is unheard of. I even went back and bought it just to have it for myself. Review: Great product, slow shipping - This product was marked “used - good” but it has nearly no signs of use. So I’m very happy with that. I ultimately chose this one because it was supposed to get to me quickly, but then it arrived 4 days late. I paid $2.75+$4 shipping.

If you have foot pain, this is the book to get you started on fixing it
I'm a bit biased, because I'm a long time barefooter (I go barefoot everywhere), but this is an excellent entry-level book to anyone who may have a shred of suspicion that their foot pain may be caused by their shoes. Even to those that do not see their shoes as a culprit, you'll learn. ☺ This book keeps its explanations at ground level, only getting technical when necessary to make a point. You should know a little about how your body works if you want to fix it, shouldn't you? Also, there are great exercises to help rebuild muscle and flexibility in probably the most neglected and mistreated part of the human body. If you're like me, and want more detailed explanations with a more comprehensive corrective exercise program, check out Whole Body Barefoot: Transitioning Well to Minimal Footwear , also by Katy Bowman . In fact, if you want the all-over treatment, check out Katy's whole collection of books about restoring strength and flexibility in the most neglected parts of our bodies.

Pay Attention, This is A Good Book
I saw the comments stating the information in this book is just run-of-the-mill, what you've read in every other foot book. I completely disagree. I have struggled with plantar fasciitis the past 2 years. This book explained everything I needed to know about it and what to do about it. In addition, it is just a good, no-nonsense book to have around when your feet need a little tlc. So her husband's into cutting off the heels of her shoes. That was a micro part of the book and you can think it's stupid, but keep reading, because it's minimal and to get hung up on this is to miss the point of the book. Between this book and great advice and exercises I've gotten from PetraFishermovement.com, my feet are the best they've every been. I highly recommend this book. She knows what she's talking about. Five Stars!!!

Good if you need a pep talk to stop wearing crap shoes. Otherwise too vague to be useful.
Yes, a lot of women are still wearing heels and pointy toes and those are terrible for your feet. Do you really need a book to talk you out of behavior that’s harming your feet? If you already avoid heels and look for zero drop shoes with round toes, you can skip this book, unless you want general foot exercises. I experienced a recent foot injury and some longer-term problems caused by shoes I wore 40 years ago. I was hoping for good exercises, and this book has exercises, but it’s just a batch of general foot exercises. There’s no: if you have this problem or it hurts here, these specific exercises will help. There is hardly any discussion of specific foot issues at all. There’s a little good material on the general function of the foot, but two chapters are dedicated to trying to convince women to wear better shoes. If you know nothing about foot health and shoes, it’s a decent place to start.

Helpful....
I had her DVD but gave it to a friend after I started to feel better. Needed a refresher so purchased her book. One star off since it doesn't address Neuromas at all. I think more exercises would be helpful as well. I have figured out some basic stretches for hips, thighs, spine and feet that I do with these exercises. If I slack off I notice.

Life changing book
I've suffered for YEARS with foot pain. I've been through pediatrists (good ones) and inserts upon inserts, various shoes, the worthless Walking Company, etc... I had spent hundreds if not thousands. Nothing really worked to solve my problem. My foot pain impaired fun with my daughter. It impaired trips that I had taken abroad. It made getting out of bed a painful experience. After applying the simple suggestions in this book, I have felt better than I have in years. I am now keeping proper standing and walking form and strengthening my muscles to ensure that I will never go back to debilitating foot pain. ..All for ~ $10 bucks (Kindle edition)... My thanks to to Author.
