(Discontinued) Stratux 1090ES & UAT Radio

Received along with Dmurray14 Antenna kit. Installed in Clear case w/fan. Immediate traffic on both right there in my living room. Debated buying the Narco 2 mini plus but for the price was happy to have these two tuned/labeled/tested for slightly more than the price of the narco. It's a plus that everything fits in the case (antennae excepted).

An easy fix when the internal heat smokes the original.

So far so good. Ive only had them in my ship a couple of times but they have worked flawlessly and since they fit inside your case, they dont creat the mess of cabling and are easier to power without having a power drop due to using a usb extender.

I finally received all my parts as listed on the Stratux website and was anxious to put my kit together. Once it was all put together, I connected the battery. After connecting to the "stratux" network, I browsed to the settings page in Chrome as instructed. Everything worked beautifully, except I only saw one SDR on the status page - 1090ES. It did not recognize the 978 UAT. Neither of these radios has a light to indicate whether they are receiving power, so I could not use that to troubleshoot. I tried the UAT radio in all four USB ports to no avail. The Stratux never recognized having a UAT SDR. I paid nearly $50 for rush shipping to put this kit together before a cross continental flight from Alaska to Florida in order to add to my situational awareness, but the lack of the main UAT radio renders the kit useless for why I got it (traffic and weather). Now I'm out the cost of these radios and cannot order a replacement since they are out of stock. I will have to rush order the NooElec radios and hope they arrive on time.

These worked fine in my stratux for a few years. They get awfully hot. It was just a matter of time before they burn out. They are so small that you cannot attach heat sinks to them. The new version of the stratux software turns on the fans intermittently so the radios wont cool correctly in an enclosed or vented box. Just a heads up. I'm ordering another set, but they will eventually burn out.

Way better that the old long USB stick style SDR's. Wish these were around before building the older style, glad I jumped up to the nano tuned ones. Pairs well with the DMURRAY14 kit.
