Robocop 1-3 Trilogy (RPKG/DVD)

All 3 movies begin with a televised newscast and there are telecast interviews and commercials. The picture is low-res and muddy and this appears to be done deliberately to give the televised effect. The live action portions (the majority of the movies) are crisp and clear with excellent detail that hold up well on my 65 inch 4K TV. The stereo sound is magnificent as well. Even though these are older movies, they don't feel as dated as one might expect.

The RoboCop trilogy came in good condition this time and I am happy because I love these movies and they are one of my favorites and that's why I am writing this preview because the last ones that came in came in damaged and I wasn't happy but now I am because I got them again and I can't wait to watch them

Good value for the money

Maybe I'm missing something but I found this Robocop Blu-ray collection looks and sounds very good compared to other similar movie transfers from the 80s. It's definitely 1080p and not some "upscaled DVD" transfer. I have the Alien Anthology [Blu-ray ], Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Skynet Edition) [Blu-ray ] as well as Blade Runner (Five-Disc Complete Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray ] and this Robocop set compares favorably to those transfers. Yes the first movie does have SOME grain...DUH...given that it was originally filmed on...gasp...FILM and not some digital HD rig! In fact the grain isn't even that big of a deal considering that some modern films have MORE ARTIFICIAL grain added than this movie. As for the sound the main track is encoded via lossless DTS-HD MA! For the price I paid..less than $6 per disc and free shipping I have no reason to even think about complaining. I'm so glad I didn't fall for the uninformed negative reviews and just went ahead and ordered this set. Given that I also own the Robocop DVD set...there's just NO WAY you could upscale those low resolution transfers and end up with the great quality on this Blu-ray set. To do a proper review you need to have seen or own the DVD set AND you need to own a native 1080p TV and have it receive 1080p output from a Blu-ray player. A computer with a Blu-ray drive connected to a native 1080p display is acceptable too. Oh and one final note, I think the people who said the video quality looks exactly like the DVD are either blind or they erroneously watched the first couple of minutes on the first film and thought that was the actual quality of the entire film...LOL! For those who do not know the first couple of minutes is supposed to look blurry and low quality due to the fact it's supposed to be footage of a "TV broadcast"...

I bought the Bluray Trilogy set and wow! I guess it had been a long time since I had seen the first two. The first thing that struck me is that I felt sorry Robocop - a man stripped of most of his humanity and put in this cold yet powerful machine. As a kid I could only think of how cool it would be to have the gun, the power, the vision and all that cam with it. Also I understand better the 80's capitalist ideas it was addressing. Those commercials in the middle are even funnier now that I understand them better. It's brilliant! So I watched number 1 and it was great, but number 2 was not as good as I remembered, but I still enjoyed it. I had seen part three in the last few years, but would catch it half way through. It was much better than what it had been given credit for and flowed seamlessly with the other two. Peter Weller really should have revived the role. The acting was a little cheesy, but hey its Robocop. I think I'll be able to watch this Trilogy over and over I really enjoyed it. The thing it lacked was extras, but I just found that a new edition of Robocop 1 will be coming out in January 2014. Definitely something to check out. Can't wait for the reboot!

At the time of writing this box set is less than 8 quid. That is terrific value for what what you get. Robocop - on paper this should be absurd. Even the design of the Robocop himself screams plastic rather than metal. It's all a bit daft. When you finally watch it though..... Satirical, touching, violent and full of iconic moments and oh so quotable dialogue this is a film worthy of many repeat viewings. It features, to my mind one fo the most gruesome but satisfying screen deaths ever, has a witty and clever script and a performance from Peter Weller in the title role that really transcends the 'man in mask' limitations. A porper nailed-on 80's classic worth many repeat viewings. The special features you get with this set are impressive and comprehensive as well. You have 20 seconds to comply!!!!! Robocop 2 - I have some love for this film. Its a decent sequel, not in the same league as its older sibling but few sequels are. What it does have is some very impressive action sequences, a fairly solid script (by Kevin Miller) and some dashes of bakcer than black humour. I enjoyed it way back when I was too young to legally see it and enjoy it know as a increasingly graying grown up! Robocop 3 - Utter bobbins. I choose to think of its inclusion in this set as being an special feature rather than what I actually paid for. When I think of it like that, its presence here doesn't bother me at all. It's not a good film, the absence of Peter Weller, the limited script and lack of care is all too apparent but that's fine, I'll just not watch it again. Watch once, appreciate its (painfully) few moments of merit and then forget it. You'll watch the first one often and the sequel every now and again. At the current price that makes for a fairly good deal. (Still, it'd be nice if it was a dollar - then I'd totally buy it!)
