Love this amp!
Although I don't claim to a card-carrying audiophile, music is a huge part of my life and I want to be able to really hear my music in detail. I had been using a vintage stereo system using a very high end old amp and preamp powering my beloved vintage Large Advent Loudpeakers that I bought in 1975 and have had re-coned three times to date. I have been wanting to be able to take advantage of the availability of Apple's ALAC codec which requires an amp with an internal or external Digital Analog Converter and the ability to wirelessly stream High-Resolution audio files - a Bluetooth connection is not capable. I also wanted an amp that would sound as good as my audiophile quality vintage system. This Marantz PM7000N has truly been an incredible upgrade. Most importantly, the amp powers my Advents perfectly and runs four sets of speakers well. Even though the PM7000N is 70 watts per channel RMS, the sound is at least as good as my old rig that delivered 150 watts RMS per channel of very clean, distortion-free power at volumes levels I enjoy. Because the amp has a descent internal DAC, that requirement was satisfied. Although it did take a call to Marantz support (which was excellent) I can now wirelessly stream all of the Apple Music Hi-Res Lossless files using an Apple 9th iPad as my source. I absolutely love the sound! Even at very low volume I get excellent sound throughout the range I am able to hear and, with my old Advents, a subwoofer is not needed. At a higher volume I am amazed at how well the amp performs. The ability to have eliminated so many wires my old system required has also been a wonderful benefit. Although I always want more, I don't know that I would really benefit from a more expensive amp than this Marantz PM7000N and I highly recommend it.

Three words to the sound: Clear, Open, and Clean.
I am in love with this amplifier. I got this to replace my Marantz PM5005, purchased back in 2016. The Marantz sounded great for what it costed, but I wanted something more since I recently upgraded to some 4 ohms bookshelf speakers that are pretty power hungry. The main improvements were in clarity and overall power. There is definitely more detail in the treble without being harsh. My favorite part? It cleaned up the bass a ton, leaving both the bass and midrange sounding much less bloated. Compared to the PM5005, the PM7000N is much more neutral sounding, which I like because my Wharfedale Denton 85's are very warm. Overall, it's a welcome upgrade. I also got it for the bluetooth functionality. As for the DAC, I was previously running a Cambridge Audio DACMagic into the PM5005. Right now, I am testing with the internal DAC on the Marantz. So far, it sounds a bit better than the DACMagic to my ears. Everything seems to be the same, except the Marantz has a much wider soundstage. I am not sure if that is due to the DAC or the amplifier section. I'm going to keep the setup simple and get rid of the DACMagic from the chain. These are my initial thoughts and impressions. I'll update this on a later date if I have something meaningful to add. EDIT 1 on 12/3/19: Still very happy with this amplifier. It did exactly what I wanted it to, the sound is so much more even and full at low volumes, I hardly have to turn the volume up to hear everything. With the PM5005, I believe that amplifier just didn't have enough current/power to properly power my speakers. It also seemed as though Marantz tuned the lower priced unit to sound better with cheaper gear, since it is evident that the bass is boosted quite a bit. This is not a bad thing, it's just too much of a colored amplifier to sound good with higher-end gear. I also really like the volume control on this unit. Very precise and easy to read. With the PM5005, using the remote control to change the volume was almost impossible to master. It was usually too loud or too soft. This is a non-issue with the PM7000N. The information screen on this unit is also very nice and actually quite helpful in navigating through the various menus.

Just What I Was Looking For
I've tried a few different amps over the past few years and each have had their problems. Glitches, repairs, unsatisfactory audio, etc. But this one works exactly as it should. It did take a few beats to get the Wi-Fi set up but since then it has been working seamlessly. It coordinates nicely with my TV, Bluetooth from my phone works well, and streaming is a snap. The remote works well. It can even power on and off my marantz CD player. Can't otherwise control it unfortunately as it is an older model. Plus, no complaints about the sound. It powers my speakers quite nicely. It has only been a few months so I can't speak for longevity. And I'm expecting a new pair of speakers in a couple of months which might be harder to drive. We will see if the 60 W per channel is enough. If not, I'll probably keep the amp to power my current set of speakers in another room. Hoping that's not necessary. I got to listen to this amp a few years ago and liked it quite a bit. It finally dropped enough in price for me to pull the trigger. Glad I did!

Quit working in less than two months
I really liked this amp while it worked. When I turned it on tonight the unit shut down and a red light started to blink. According to the owners manual this is caused by a malfunction of the power circuit. The manual states to unplug the unit and contact customer support at Marantz. From the research I’ve done online it appears this will be a serious failure. I went with the Marantz over other manufactures because I believed they were of higher quality. I am very disappointed. UPDATE: contacted Marantz customer service. They will not replace the amp. I must pack up the unit and send it to one of theIf authorized repair facilities in NY. I had to call them first and them complete a repair form and also provide a copy of my receipt with the amp. Such a hassle, I probably won’t get it back for sometime. I will definitely not purchase any further Marantz products.

Great Product - Mini Powerhouse - Very Detailed
I researched this amp ahead of time. I have the KEF LS50 Passive speakers and this amp drives them beautifully. I have this setup in a large room and it still does a great job. In a smiler room made for media this amp/speaker combo would be unbeatable. It’s truly a reference setup with the KEF / Marantz arrangement. This amp is just warm of neutral. The KEFs are dead neutral so the sound of the two together is overall on the musical side. I would say I was worried about the voicing with my speaker choice, not to mention that these speakers are notorious for being hard to drive. But the amp makes them really sing, so the current feedback amplifier section is really bullet proof. I think your speaker choice should really come down to character vs efficiency. This amp can handle any speaker in its recommended power range. I am a little annoyed that it doesn’t process AIFF files natively so, I had to convert thousands of files to WAV. Also, if you are new to network streaming amps or not as tech savvy, there will be a learning curve. I’m not a huge fan of HEOS, mainly because the App is crappy. You must use the HEOS App for almost everything when it comes to interfacing with this unit for music streaming and reading the USB Drive. Also, I noticed that when reading from the USB drive, the HEOS App doesn’t recognize Artist or Album data. If you select “Browse” from the App, it sorts all music by artist and allows you to drill down by album and then track...?? It seems odd that the app can do that but not show by Artist when you select it. Minor annoyances aside... when it comes to plying music, this thing is in the zone. I immediately noticed some recordings that fell flat because this amp will reveal the detail for both good and bad. Absolutely love this amp. But, don’t waste your money on this unless you plan on pairing it with speakers that will do it justice.

unit has Network connectivity issues....
I usually have good experiences with Marantz, but not this time. If you're not connecting this to your WiFi, then you're probably going to be ok. It sounds great....however, my experience was that this unit will not reliably stay connected to the (WiFi 6) network.... And this was running the latest firmware. It will show 'playing' a digital source, but no sound. Upon network reset, it functions normally for a day or three, then same issue occurs. At first I thought I must be doing something wrong, until I read same as reported by many others online. Very disappointed, had to return it.

Great Amp
I compared the PM7006N to the Cambridge Audio CXA-81. I liked them both, but I kept the Marantz. I had a Harman Kardon HK3480, which for the price was ok, but I was never satisfied with the sound. Just lacked a clarity that I was looking for. The Marantz and the CXA sounded much better. The sound of the CXA-81 was a bit more bass heavy than the Marantz, which was fine, but I would not say it was superior. With sound quality being equal and much better than the Harman Kardon HK3480, the Marantz has a much better set of features. Having a built in steamer with HEOS is really awesome. A lot of people knock the HEOS app and while it is not as polished as some other Apps, it works great with Spotify. The interface with Amazon music is terrible, but I understand that is an Amazon issue. I have another HEOS speaker and connecting the two is easy and flawless. I am adding two more HEOS speakers once then arrive. So why only 4 stars? Only one set of speaker terminals. Who builds a $1200 stereo with only one set of speaker connections? Marantz, I guess. I bought a speaker selector switch as work around, but come on Marantz.

Excellent features and great sound quality
I bought this amp in the new year and have been using it for 6 months. I had a 20-year old hi-fi setup (speakers, CD, amp, tape player, turntable and tuner) that I was happy with but since I more-and-more listen to music from my iPhone I was frustrated with having to connect it through the headphone socket, which didn’t work too well. This Marantz worked perfectly for me: I can stream from my iPhone with Airplay, and I can also connect directly to my music server (a Synology disk) through the HEOS app. The internet radio was an unexpected surprise. It picks up stations from all over the world, including all my local stations, and so I threw out my old tuner as I didn’t need it anymore. With my previous amp I only used the RCA connectors, but this Marantz has two digital out connections so I run these to my CD player and TV. The cables are much less bulky so it’s nice to free up a bit of space. The only issue I’ve had is that this amp is a beast. It’s very heavy and the front sticks out somewhat, but this wasn’t a big problem for me. Sound quality is great and I especially noticed an improvement with the sound from my turntable. Overall, I’m very happy I made this upgrade and I think the price is good value given the quality and the features.
