Delicious!!!
These udon noodles are fantastic! They have the perfect chewy texture and cook up quickly without getting mushy. I used them in a stir-fry and also tried them in a broth, and they held up beautifully both ways. The flavor is neutral, which makes them super versatile for all kinds of dishes. Packaging was great, and the noodles separated easily after cooking. I’m really happy with the quality and will definitely be keeping these stocked in my pantry.

Whole Wheat
I am on a Daniel's fast and had concerns whether or not if these are whole wheat udon noodles or refined white wheat flour. Based on the seller these are actually whole wheat udon noodles which had me surprised. They don't have the same earthy flavor as other store bought whole wheat pastas or the brown color, nor the texture. These taste as close to refined noodles as you can get being made of wheat. The wheat noodles are delicate, chewy and pair well not just with Asian cuisines but Italian also. Think linguine. They are rated #2 in the udon noodles category and I can understand. Subtle flavored whole wheat udon noodles. Delicious!

The preparation instructions are clear and simple: boil for about 9 minutes. I found that 8-9 minutes yielded a perfect al dente chewiness. Rinsing immediately under cold water after boiling stops the cooking process effectively, which is crucial for cold preparations like Zaru Udon. 👅 Flavor and Texture Texture: This is where the noodle shines. The Udon has a substantive, satisfying thickness and a wonderfully chewy, slightly elastic mouthfeel that you expect from quality Udon. It held up very well without becoming mushy, even when left in a hot broth for an extended time. Thinnest udon noodles I have ever seen!
First, the packages did arrive completely intact. I had no breakage whatsoever. I appreciate the way it’s individually bound inside the package to divide up what should be an average serving and for me it was divided up accurately. Secondly, and this is the negative part, these are the thinnest udon noodles I have ever seen in my life! Each noodle should be at least 4-5 times thicker than what they are. Also the instructions for cooking them said that there was no need for salt or other kind of seasoning and I strongly disagree. I think, like any noodle, a little touch of salt takes away the bland taste when they finish cooking, much the same as it is with rice. I bought two packets so I’m going to have them for a while but I’m not going to buy them again because they are just too skinny. They are the size between angel hair pasta and spaghetti & that is far too thin to be an udon noodle. But the price wasn’t bad. I’m just not impressed enough to buy them again.
