As you age, and GERD develops, most people think they have too much stomach acid, but its the opposite. As we age, our bodies produce less and less. That means you GERD and its other cancerous side effects start, your bodies ability to assimilate nutrients diminishes, gut flora turns bad, and most of all, your body starts holding on to fat, but if you start taking HCL in your 30's and increase its usage as you get older, you will stay leaner, better nourished, and not have to harm your liver with GERD, Statin, and other perscriptions that actually cause NAFLD, the #1 liver disease in the country. At age 50+ on big meals I take as much as 6 caps. When you get to 70+ your body produces maybe 15% HCL that it once did and by your 80's its down to 1%. So if you are attempting to loose weight at any age, or attempting to stop GERD and get off GERD Meds (it took me 5 weeks to get off GERD Meds and my throat would have difficult swallowing turkey and bread and other dry foods and now no problems) of if you are getting older and want peak health, take a digestive enzyme before a meal and take HCL after a meal. In the morning, I eat oatmeal and berries, so I take 1-2 caps, at lunch I have my big Startch meal (Dr McDougall MD / Dr Esselstyn MD Diet) so I take 5-6 caps and supper is usually a veggie noodle soup with Indian or Thai, of Mex spices and I take 3 Caps of HCL. I do not take many supplements, I get my nutrients from food. But the on thing I cannot go on without is HCL. It is that important to me. I am well informed. And this brand of HCL is very very good. One of the things you need to look at when you label shop supplements is the "OTHER INGREDIENTS: and look for Magnesium Searate which is HIGHLY inflammatory to your endothelia lining in your arteries. This product is free of them. If you want a table for correct usage based upon weight and age, then Google "hcl instructions digestive support usage table" and the pdf will come up.

This stuff stinks literally! Smells like rotten fish capsules are all broken and melted together I do not reommend this product definitely changed since the last time I purchased it

I love this product. I have to take Pepcid as an antihistamine, so my stomach acid is low. Betaine HCl increases my ability to digest food, medications, and supplements. Some hard numbers for you: I've been taking 5,000 IU of vitamin D3 every day for *years* and couldn't get my level above 50. In the year or so that I've been taking this supplement along with the contents of my morning and evening pill cases, I didn't change my vitamin D intake at all, but my level jumped from 35 to 70 units on the same Quest blood test at the same lab. A level of 60+ (but less than 100) is ideal for my chronic condition, so I'm delighted with these results. My only criticism is that the capsules do tend to stick together, and if they do, you have to throw out the whole mass of them. I only take one at a time, so at first I tried to pull them apart carefully, but I don't recommend this. If you put a hole or even a thin spot in the gelatin, you risk a chemical burn to your throat when you swallow the capsule. Imagine heartburn but if you were afraid it would actually burn a hole in your esophagus instead of just hurting. It's no joke! I don't know why they don't just put a desiccant packet in every bottle. It's sorely needed!

When I eat sometimes my stomach blows up bloated. It feels like the food is not digesting properly. One of these kick starts the process and relieves the bloating, but it can take about half an hour to really feel the difference. A little ground fennel in warm water relieves the bloating relatively quickly.

I want to write this review because these acid pills gave me back my life. I am a 24 year healthy, athletic, male and over the past 4 years I have had a progressively worsening cough that eventually lead to fatigue, morning phlegm, back acne, and tightening in my chest/shortness of breath. Nothing seemed to help even after seeing multiple specialists and trying multiple medications in attempts to solve the problem. I had my tonsils removed (inflamed for over a year), was diagnosed with asthma, started using a control inhaler and taking omeperazole, however i saw little to no improvement in my symptoms. Basic life functions were difficult and I was starting to give up until a friend of mine mentioned I may have low acid which is irritating my airways. I started taking HCL with each meal and within weeks almost all my symptoms had improved or were gone altogether. Currently I have dropped all medications and only now need the HCL pills with heavy meals. I do not burp constantly after meals, have more energy, can breath much easier, and acne has improved. I spent so much money on health insurance and turns out I could have been fixed with a $9 bottle of HCL paired with watching my diet and not eating before bed. If this story helps one person it will be worth it because the majority of Doctors push pills and don't look at your timeline/full story. The medication were actually damaging to my digestive system so be careful.

This product really works. I've gotten 7 bottles in the last 2 years but every time it comes in the product is always damaged inside. Popped pills, the pills sticking together.
