Excellent solution for fast lawn repair!
Scott's EZ Seed Patch and Repair is the go-to grass repair solution when you need to fill in areas quickly. I've been into perfecting turfgrass for decades and I have a tried and true method of turf repair that I embark on each autumn. Without getting into the details, after the overseeding and fertilizing efforts, there are always a few areas that require a little more help. That's when I buy a big (expensive) bag of Scott's EZ Seed Patch. It works extremely well, timing-wise. The speed at which it grows is essential because I typically use this product as "Round 2" of my autumn lawn repair project. And in the northeast, we have a narrow window for autumn lawn building. This stuff grows fast and thick! Soil preparation is imperative. A hard raking and soil loosening is essential. Then if you use this product liberally and water it at least once a day, you'll have thick grass growing in two weeks. Most grass seed takes two to three times longer than that. With regular grass seed, I typically expect similar results over 4 to 6 weeks. So, if you're looking for quick results in fixing your lawn, this is a great solution. One final note: This product is very dry and dusty. Please consider wearing a mask to prevent breathing in the fine particles of fertilizers and other substances as you work.

Crab grass... the uncomfortable type of "grass"
I have crab grass that's been filling up our entire backyard ever since we bought our home seven years ago. Crab grass grows fast and is an invasive weed. Because it's weed, I learned that you can slowly kill crab grass by watering less often and deeper into the soil so that only good grass' roots can get water. With that in mind, I wanted to put that knowledge to the test by ripping out some large portions of crab grass from the back yard. (TIP: water the soil a bit so it's easier to rip the crab grass out) Once the ground was bare soil, I loosened it up a bit and pulled out any remaining crab grass/dead weed. Next, I sprinkled this Scotts seed (Tall Fescue grass) onto a small section to see what would happen. NOTHING GREW. I was disappointed. Then I read the instructions on the packaging: 1. Spread the seeds/fertilizer into the ground 2. Loosen/turn the soil 3. Water daily as needed to keep the soil moist for the first 2 weeks I changed my sprinkler to water every 2 days for 5 minutes. End result? Grass grew after a week, and now it has increasingly become fuller! See photos for the results! Once the grass has grown acceptably, I will change the sprinkler system to water less frequently again (but deeper through cycle soaking) in order to starve the crab grass weed of water and to help the new grass establish deeper roots. SUMMARY: water often in the first 2 weeks to help sprout the new grass. Once it's established, water less frequently (but cycle soak) so the new grass grows deeper roots.

Works anywhere
I recently used Scotts EZ Seed Patch and Repair for Tall Fescue Lawns, and I'm thrilled with the results. This product is a real game-changer when it comes to revitalizing my lawn. Firstly, the combination of mulch, seed, and fertilizer in one package makes it incredibly convenient. It simplifies the process of patching and repairing my lawn, saving me time and effort. The 20 lb. bag provides ample coverage, making it suitable for larger areas or multiple applications. The tackifier feature is a standout benefit. It helps to prevent seed wash-away, especially in rainy or windy conditions, ensuring that the seeds stay in place and have a better chance of germinating. This added protection gave me confidence that my effort and investment wouldn't go to waste. I also appreciate the quality of the seed and fertilizer. The Tall Fescue seed is of high quality, and the fertilizer provides essential nutrients that promote healthy grass growth. The mix has consistently produced lush and green grass in the repaired areas of my lawn. The application process is straightforward, and the instructions on the bag are easy to follow. I appreciate that Scotts provides clear guidance on how to achieve the best results. Overall, Scotts EZ Seed Patch and Repair for Tall Fescue Lawns is a reliable and effective solution for anyone looking to improve the health and appearance of their lawn. It's user-friendly, convenient, and delivers noticeable results. I highly recommend this product to homeowners seeking an easy and effective way to rejuvenate their grass.

best for sun & not shade - UPDATED 06/16/16
Be patient! Takes a few weeks to come up but comes up very strong. I was dissappointed to get 36 lbs of "mulch"/fertilizer & approximately 4 lbs of actual grass seed. Much of the mulch washed away after heavy rains just after planting. This grass seed clearly prefers warm sunny soil. In shade it is very thin and sparse. Definitely NOT a shade oriented grass seed. UPDATE: 06/16/16 The grass is now fairly plush in sun. Do Not plant in shade. Doesn't work. Extremely Sparse. Also: The small sunny area that did come up is very "Dirty". Meaning there are hundreds of broadleaf and other weeds. Since planting Scotts, we have planted other brands of seed. One is "Lacrosse" Madison sunny mix in Adjacent soil. Came up without a single weed. I noticed on the outside of bag of Lacrosse seed that it lists a % of non grass seed. It was a tiny fraction of a percent. Basically nothing. Have long since thrown the Scotts bag away, but there is a lot of seed in there that is NOT grass seed. Now due to the young age of the grass we are unable to use a weed killer so as the grass thrives, so do the many many weeds! I would never buy this product or recommend it to anyone.
